在去年8月宣布推出Outlook.com線上郵件服務後，微軟宣布在短短6個月左右時間內便突破6000萬活躍使用人數，目前也正式將從beta測試版本更新為正式版本，另外在介面部分也將改為Outlook本身風格，而不是先前貼近Hotmail的介面設計。

根據微軟Outlook部落格所公布消息，表示去年下半年間所推出的beta版Outlook.com線上郵件服務已經有超過6000萬名的活躍用戶數量，同時將自即日起正式更新為正式版本，介面部分也將調整為Outlook本身風格，但使用者基本上還是可以從設定中重新改為先前beta版本的近Hotmail介面設計。

除了宣布將更新為正式版本外，微軟也重申新版Outlook.com線上郵件服務將藉由瀏覽器強化社交互動串流使用體驗，使用者除了能更直覺地收發郵件，也能整合線上視訊、影音分享等功能，另外服務內沒有綁定廣告機制也是微軟強調重點之一。

微軟也說明既有Hotmail服務使用者可以無接縫轉移到Outlook.com服務，甚至電子郵件信箱名稱也不用作改變，但一樣可額外使用一組網域為@outlook.com的電子郵件信箱。
